Description
BMW Mahle 13718507320 Air Filter Element F22,F23,F30,F31 F33
Filters the intake charge and prevents dust and other debris from getting sucked into the engine
Air filters for your engine are responsible for providing a clean flow of air. When these filters get dirty the amount of air flow can be significantly decreased which reduces performance. It is important to change your engines air filters on a regular basis with the change interval increasing if you drive in dustier environments.

Engine Air Filter
An engine air filter is a critical component of a vehicle’s intake system, allowing clean fresh outside air to enter the combustion chamber and prevent dust, dirt, and other contaminants from entering the engine. Your engine’s air filter sits within the air intake box and traps particles as air flows into the engine. This ensures that only clean air reaches the combustion chamber, which provides optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.
Engine Air Filter Failure Symptoms
- Clogging: Over time, your air filter can become clogged with dirt, dust, and debris, reducing the amount of fresh air that reaches the engine. This can lead to poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and increased emissions.
- Moisture Contamination: Exposure to excessive moisture, whether from driving in heavy rain or through water, can cause the air filter to become saturated. A wet filter can restrict airflow, further deteriorate over time, and lead to potential engine damage.
- Age: Over time, the materials in the air filter can degrade, losing their ability to filter out contaminants effectively. An old air filter may become brittle and prone to tearing. It is recommended to inspect your engine air filter every 15 – 30,000 miles
- Decreased Fuel Efficiency: When the air filter is blocked, the engine struggles to get the proper air-fuel mixture, causing it to burn more fuel to compensate, resulting in reduced fuel efficiency and reduced performance
- Misfire: Inadequate airflow can lead to incomplete combustion, causing the engine to misfire, which might cause hesitation or weak power build-up under load.
