Air Bag Clockspring

An air bag clockspring (also called a spiral cable or contact reel) is a coil-shaped electrical connector located inside the steering wheel. It maintains a continuous electrical connection between the vehicle’s wiring harness and steering wheel-mounted components—such as the airbag, horn, and steering wheel controls—while allowing the wheel to turn freely.

Air Bag Clockspring Failure Symptoms

Airbag warning light illuminated, due to lost connection to the driver’s airbag.
Non-functioning steering wheel controls, such as radio buttons or cruise control switches.
Horn not working, as the circuit through the clockspring may be broken.
