Air Bag Clockspring

An air bag clockspring (also called a spiral cable or contact reel) is a coil-shaped electrical connector located inside the steering wheel. It maintains a continuous electrical connection between the vehicle’s wiring harness and steering wheel-mounted components—such as the airbag, horn, and steering wheel controls—while allowing the wheel to turn freely.

Air Bag Clockspring Failure Symptoms

• Airbag warning light illuminated, due to lost connection to the driver’s airbag.
• Non-functioning steering wheel controls, such as radio buttons or cruise control switches.
• Horn not working, as the circuit through the clockspring may be broken.
